I tried the trio surface pads from Hertz, but she didn't seem to be very interested. I picked this up to see if she would be more interested. At $10 I thought it'd be a cheap investment. The minute I opened it up, she was on top of it going crazy. Once I added the catnip she wouldn't get off it. I'm afraid she's going to start sleeping on it instead of curled up next to me!I got the larger size and it seems to work well. It's a nice size, you can easily put it into a corner and forget about it. The catnip falls into the honeycombed cardboard so it will keep attracting you cat back. I'm thinking about picking up a few more to either spread out through my apartment or tape together to make a much larger surface for her to play. This was one of those items, and from day one he kept scratching at it, saving what limited furninture I can fit in my small apartment. So in that sense, it does work. It's simple, it's a box of cardboard with catnip, and cats scratch it.A week or so later, looking for even more things to spoil my new cat with, I found items that incorporated this same design with that of other toys. For example, the "Blitz Turboscratcher" which is a circular track with a ball inside that a cat can bat around and chase in an endless loop with this same cardboard in the center for them to scratch. Both cats loved it (the older cat hogged it) but neither of them were interested in the ball. They gave it a couple of swipes, a few chases and then have ignored it for years.When I saw the SuperScratcher I decided to try it since I knew they already liked to scratch on the cardboard surface from the Turbo. This was a bigger hit with them. They seem to like being able to completely stand on it to scratch; I'm assuming they have better stability, it doesn't slide away and they can get a really vigorous scratching session out of it. I'd have to buy them in pairs because the older cat tended to sleep on it taking her ability to hog the scratcher to a new level.
